Mazyar Mahan

Scholar | Educator | Filmmaker

I am a Ph.D. Candidate and Teaching Associate at the University of Texas at Dallas, where I teach courses on transnational cinema, global art cinema, and understanding film. My dissertation focuses on Iranian expatriate filmmakers and their works over the past decade. My research has been published in Mise-en-scène and The Spectator. I am also co-editing (with Maryam Ghorbankarimi) ReFocus: The Films of Shirin Neshat (Edinburgh University Press). I currently serve as the President of the Bass Association of Graduate Students and the graduate student representative for the SCMS Transnational Cinemas Scholarly Interest Group.

I am also a proud member of the Iranian Independent Filmmakers Association (IIFMA), which comprises dedicated independent filmmakers who champion freedom of expression, speech, and artistic independence.
